Carp help needed

Hi Il start with my stoy..

I started fishing when I was about 10 and back then we only ever got purch and roach ect. If someone got a carp it was a big deal!! I stoped fishing at about 17, but now I have a 10 year old of mine own thats is getting into his fishing I have started again with him.

The thing is i only know and can only show him the way we fished in the 90s as kids. Float fishing with small hooks. Using magotts and corn as bait (he did get a 12lb carp this way at gold valley) But i see now most people are using "bollies" "pva bags" "pop ups" and i have no idea about any of that stuff. I like to float fish cos you always have something to do.

So wot I need to know is can I catch big carp 15lb+ the old way? Float fishing with magott & worm? Or do I need to get with the times and get bait alarms and so on?

Any help would be great thank you.

i would say just fish the way u have before because it has worked for me many a time with carp. but one thing maybe try sweetcorn for carp more than maggot as the sweetcorn is bigger you wont get as many small roach as u would wilst using maggots. hope this helps

I think you could be right, I fished wednesday nothing but small stuff on the maggot but 2 nice carp on the corn 7/8lbs.

What do you guys think of using pellets on the float? mate of mine uses a pump to help hook them and another guys i know uses bait bands. Which is best?

Re: Carp help needed

and also i think using pellet on the float is a worth while experiment at your local lake or pond. i have actually just started using pellet on the float last weekend for only a hour with no fish but i am going out next weekend and im going to use it all day and it should work hopefully
