Whats the best method to target crucians?

def no expert but
1 make sure lake has them( obviously)
caster over hemp is the way on our lake
size 14 hooks and alot of patience to get through the other fish untill they arrive

ive just watched a guy catching them on my local (i didnt even know it had them!) he was using a very small float and a single grain of corn

Seen Matt Hayes and Mick Brown doing similiar, they fished close to lillies and shotted in a way that a lift bite would show, almost like tench fishing.

Smaller Crucians (below a pound) are well known on some waters for taking the bait into their mouths and only showing small movements on the float so if it's the same on your water, move a size 8 shot a little closer to the hook and be ready to strike as soon as the float starts to move sideways even if it doesn't submerge.

Is it best to fish on the bottom or mid water?

Fish on the bottom. or almost touching bottom as crucians can sometimes give quite delicate bites which can be hard to see if you lay on too hard.
There are times when they will take baits quite confidently but those times are relatively rare for Crucians.
