Re: ok carp on float You could always try a crust which is suspended above a leger and is floating 6 inches below the surface. If ducks get near a couple of turns of the reel handle will sink your bait out of sight and after the ducks have passed you can let the crust float back up nearer the surface again. This is often a good method and imitates a sodden crust that has started to sink from the surface and because you have a leger weight it looks to others like you are fishing on or near the bottom. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: ok carp on float good tip boldbear. i went out fishing again. problem was i was getting loads of bites as soon as i put my rig with sweetcorn on it for carp in. these bites were from small fish like roach and i couldnt hook any of them because they couldnt eat the sweetcorn cos its to big for um. so i had a load of false bites and i didnt know if they were small fish or carp. and then i had the small fish nibbling at the bait so my sweetcorn lasted about 10 seconds on the hook. so i tryed meat and i had the same problom so i also tryed pellet which i couldnt get bites on. so i had to put bread on the surface to catch them. and i got 2 carp and a gold fish like thing i think.

Re: ok carp on float Hi Give this a go, set your float 18" max with a light hook, (2.5lb or heavier if you can get away with it) 16 or 14 hook depending on how wary the carp are, then feed approx 6 pieces of sweetcorn every ten seconds or so. DONT cast your hook bait out until you know the Carp are about, it will be obvious when they are there as the surface water will be disturbed, cast in and keep the sweetcorn going in. DO NOT strike when your float dips, set your rod at a 45 deg angle to the baited area and WAIT until the rod pulls around, a gentle strike is all that is needed. Some times the hook length will need to be shortened or lengthen, its trail and error, if the fish are being deep hooked shorten the hook length, If you are not getting the bites lengthen the link BUT do it gradually until you start to hook Carp regularly Try to keep the bait going in while you are playing the Carp it will keep the Carp in the swim, it is difficult but with practice it will become easy You may find feeding 6 no corn is not enough or to much, you dont want to increase the amount too much as you may over feed them or they may move on if enough is not going in, this is where the skill comes in This rig is excellent with maggots as well as long as there is not two many small Rudd etc... about but Maggots cost so much more that sweet corn Good luck Darrell

Re: ok carp on float If the small fish are a problem increase the amount of free offerings until the Carp arrive, when the Carp are about the small fish will move off Another good bait are large koi treats, cut a narrow groove in the treat and super glue the hook in place, the Rudd will spend ages pecking at the bait, this in turn attracts the Carp and hopefully your in Darrell
