''me too with a shakespear lincoln sidecast center pin loaded with 4lb fluro blue stren line!''
I like your style Dave , floater fishing is all about finess & a delicate approach, Though 5 or 6 lb line may suit some people or venues better .
You'll need a rod light enough to hold for long periods & soft enough to allow you to use fine lines.
My preferred method is a fly fishing set up , it's a lovely way to catch carp & if you know someone who can teach you the casting basics it's a great intro to fly fishing . I have seen people put a small fixed spool reel onto a fly rod for this type of fishing to make the casting easier , though a sidecast centrepin would be more fun( & the Lincoln is a very useable cheaper trotting reel too ). a 6,7or 8 weight rod is ideal , dog biscuit carp flies are available from Sportfish & DragonCarp and would work well with any setup you choose .
Good luck & roll on those warm summer evenings ( I'll be trying for some carp off the top this evening )

ah yes strangely enough i think mine has started doing that too
