When to hair-rig or not to hair-rig?

Excuse a poss basic question but....I would appreciate some training here!

I have been fishing sweetcorn on the hook, some doggy bicks on a hair - some folk hair-rig corn and small boilies...

My local pond has a max hook limit of size 10.

Would putting corn on a hair improve "stike rate?"

What's the theory?
