Re: New to Bite alarm fishing. Need help please:)

I dont use baitrunner on one of my rods, so what I do is put an elastic band around the rod handle above the reel just before where the rod handle ends and the rod starts. I then open the bail arm on the reel (and leave it open) click on the monkey climber, and then put a loop of line from the reel through the elastic band, so that the loop of line portrudes an inch or so past the elastic band. The elastic band holds the line tight enough so u can use the monkey climber/bait alarm, and if a fish takes your bait it will still register on the monkey climber/alarm, and if it runs it will then pull the line through the elastic band so that the line is then free to run off the spool, as you will have left the bail arm open. I saw John Wilson use it on a programme when he was ledgering floatfished deadbait for pike, but works just as well for bite alarm/monkey climbers if no bait runner.
Aint very good at explaining, but hope it helps

Ye that helps; i heard that i could use the spool ajuster to let the line go out with the bail arm on and then use swingers and the bite alarm to see the bite and then when the fish starts to run hold the spool so it doesnt let line out then strike. Is that a good method as well?

Yep, it would work too, but it means you then have to start messing around with the spool adjuster/drag once the fish is hooked, and there is possibility u may adjust drag too much initially in the midst of fighting the fish which could lead to broken line. Whereas my way, the drag/spool adjuster can be set to the right amount prior to fish taking the hook, and when the fish runs and lifts the monkey climber, pulls then line from under the elastic band, all you have to do is lift rod turn the reel handle to close the bail arm, and you are into the fish, with drag set at the right tension, and away u go (theoretically).

easiest way is to set all your bobbins or hangers depending on what you are using for bite indication, Get them all set just right then simply carefully take the anti reverse off your reel. If a fish screams off your bobbin will fly up and your reel handle will go backwards letting line off. Sit close to your rods when doing this though as you can get the odd tangleif your not quick!

You could also loosen the drag off, just remember to tighten when playing the fish.

Re: New to Bite alarm fishing. Need help please:)

Firstly cast out to your spot. Put rod tip underwater to sink line... Like you would do when feeder fishing.

Put rod into rod rest/alarm stand run line threw the alarm aswell.

Adjust clutch on reel so line easily pulls from the spool.when you get a fish put finger on spool lip and strike (set the hook)
then adjust clutch to fighting drag. How you have always had it set. Hope this helps

Yes a straight bomb is good this time of year. Put your lead on mainline then thread line through a rubber bead or a drennan swivel bead. tie mainline onto swivel using a uni or palamar knot. Attach hooklink (slightly lower b/s) to other end of swivel and jobs a goodun!
