Shimano baitrunner 2 spools confused :s

Hi guys
I have been handed down some shimano ultegra big pit reels for a good friend.
They have been sitting around for weeks but I'm looking to spool them up etc and use them when my new rods arrive.

Now here is my dilema I can't seem to work put how to set up free drag and fight drag.
On my dl you set the baitrunner up and it gets disengaged when you turn the handle on the reels. From there you can change the fight drag when ever you feel the need when playing the fish.

But with this front baitrunner spool I seem to try and set it and it i turn the spool and like in free spool (easy to take line) but then I turn the main know the bigger one like quarter of a turn and it locks up. Now this seems weird as during the fight I like to have it quite loose an use my finger to stop the spool and release of need be.

But with these new front baitrunner 2 reels I'm worried when I'm playing a fish I'm limited with my options. Hopefully I'm being stupid and not setting them up correctly :)


Can anyone explain or give me some tips. Many thanks guys
