Leaders Hi can anyone explain to me the use of leaders? I think I grasp the idea on the fishing rods for example tie a flurocarbon leader on to some mono to camo the rig and pin it to the lake bed. But I have just got hold of a marker and a spod rod although the latter won't be user for w long long time. I want to make sure I set then up correctly I was told floating braid on both?!?!? But someone else said strong mono on the spod etc.... I'm sure there's no definate rule but there must be some kind of guildline of what to use? Many thanks

Re: Leaders i use 12lb mono with a 30lb mono leader on my spod as you need something that will stretch when it is clipped up ,if not it will crack off due to the sudden halt . for my marker rod i use nash bullet marker braid in 15lb, i actually use a 4.5 lb spod rod for my marker work as it is more responsive to the rises and falls and you feel the lake bed much better ![]()

Re: Leaders Ye that's what I was recommended so I hot a matching marker and spod rod. Nick on the spod rod would the 12lb mono you have not stretch when hitting the clip? Or is it there for when you really give it some?

Re: Leaders I get that so does 30lb stretch more than the 12lb? What if you put 30lb straight threw? I suppose would reduce casting ability

Re: Leaders the 30 lb is only about . 2 rod lengths long and around the spool 4/5 times.this is the leader you need the give in the lighter bs mate if you put 30 straight through it would cut down distance one hell of a lot ,, eg when iam fishing at distance with a 3.5 /4oz lead i use 8lb line with a 20 lb shock ,all in mono ..distance of 130yds plus some will use 25lb braid with a mono leader of 40 lb ish .i like to use mono as my main line
