| Hook pulls. What causes them? Hi guys I have often heard people talking about hook pulls and I have wondered what causes them? Is it angler error? For example ppl say to high tc rods cause them is that because there is less bend in the rod so they think they can put more pressure on the hooked fish? Also I have always used 12/14 sized Korda hooks when catching carp to 16lb bit wheb I go to another lake that possibly has bigger fish in should I up the size? I can see that using bigger hooks could spook the fish but is there a disadvantage to using hooks to small? Sorry for questions Many thanks     |

To much pressure , to little pressure . hook type ,size ,pattern , hi tc does not always come into it , more like the anglers themselves who cause the problem, I use high tc on a certain water i fish and have never lost a fish {i can actually count how many fish i have lost due to hook pulls with out taking my socks off,lol It could also be the way the rig is made up , does it turn into the mouth , does it not turn? so increasing/decreasing the chance of a good hook hold Plus the fact you use korda hooks lol hook size i never fish bigger than a 5/7  |

| Re: Hook pulls. What causes them? Poor hooks may be part of the problem. I have used ESP hooks for a while and found them OK for me to use. Just noticed your in Copthorne, nr Felbridge? Do you know a lake called Charts Plain by any chance. |

| Re: Hook pulls. What causes them? I used to use Fox Series 2, but my local tackle dealer started to stock the ESP range. The important factor was that they were availiable in smaller sizes, which I wanted. |
