Sheep

Have carp anglers become like sheep ?
just following the crowds
Not thinking for them selves ,
The "if it works for others it must work for me syndrome,"!
Where are the innovators gone ?
Has carp angling become stale ???

Re: Sheep

I think you're right, but to jump slightly to question asked a few days ago, about time on the bank, many of the idea's esp bait/rigs have been developed by folks on the bank during long sessions.
Once the secret is out then the sheep follow on.
I have had good results on a lcal lake by fishing differntly to others, who are sitting behind bolt rigs all day. Mainly because I enjoy watching a float. So I planned out a way to float fish for the carp. Got a new PB doing it too.

Re: Sheep

I too catch many a fine Carp on the float but this is probably because the fish have become used to what I fish with and where I fish for them.
As I see it,the main problem with catching Carp is getting them used to anything new,I find it can take months before they will accept anything other than what I have used before.I find it great fun trying out other baits and personally enjoy the challenge.Of course, again every water is different so tactics will also be different too.

Re: Sheep

i think its unfair to call carpers sheep as the reason they use these tried and tested methods is TIME,most of us work five days a week so the reason for using tried and tested methods is we want instant results in the short amount of time we have ,so by sitting on the bank tying new rigs and inventing new set ups is wasting that time when we could be putting all our focus into catching those beutiful fish ,but on the other hand when i book a week off work i do go and spend time tying rigs thinking of new ways to set them up and somtimes they work ,sometimes they dont its that simple.
