Re: Thinking

Hi guys I'm new to fishing been doing it about 2 years

First year was just chucking a feeder in randomly (casting practice) at match lakes and getting to know a few different species of fish. Such as roach, bream, perch and the different strands of carp etc... Then one day I wasn't getting much luck so moved swim and as I was walking around I saw something splash Up from the water so I thought what the heck cast my rod over the top of it and hooked into it. It was something a bit bigger than anything else I had caught before and was a 16lb common and it was a beutiful fish. And from that day I started getting more and more into carp fishing it fasinates me the skill and effort that is needed on the more unique and difficult lakes. Especially the size these things can grow!

I'm now into my second year with a personel best of 23lb from a little local lake that not many people have access to.
Now I don't know how everyone feels about fishing but I'm a 24 year old with a mortgage and a demanding job I just love the whole experience of finding a lake. Gathering my gear sorting it all out arriving at the lake and it so different to what you had planned. I have learnt to keep and open mind because what ever tactic you want to try normally the situation dictacts something the complete oposite. Eg weather, pressure etc.
I love the quite and the outdoors and how unpredictable it is.
You can catch one week with no freebies just a hookbait then the next week you need to let them feed then put your rig out.

Don't get me wrong I'm still very new to it all but I'm enjoying learning but I do it for myself not to impress.
I do think for a new angler it is very easy to get caught up in it all. With a new DVD/book every week saying this carp got caughton this with the new latest 4million pound tc rod. You end up thinking you need it aswell. Every new DVD there selling something else. Now my close friend who I fish with has caught many a good pressured carp over his time but has the same rod and reel he got for his 21st birthday and he is now 30ish :)

Also the Internet doesn't help with the prices being cheaper than the local tackle shops people are just not going in and getting good old fashion advise instead they see the latest DVD with mega expensive big pits and custom rods and think that's what they need.

Sorry to go on but thought I would give my opinion. I have had people tell me my rods wernt up to the job if I wanted to reach the island with the fish holding up and I have cast straight to it. You only need what you for the situation your fishing. Worry about what you might need for the big pits when you fish the big pits.

I'm looking to join a small syndicate near heathrow if anyone knows one. Don't want mega big fish in maybe a nice few 20's and maybe a 30 to target one day. I want to focus on learning the lakes patrol routes and how the fish feed and when etc... Learn the water. So of anyone knows one let me know

Al
