Sorry to be an awkward so and so, but could it have been accidently developed with out the angler realising it, such as a tangled running lead with a large lead, as in the angler did not know he had a bolt rig?
Sorry but its foul outside, just returned from a small harvesting trip, and am avoiding doing some work for a while whilst I warm up/dry out.

i would hazard a guess at the guy who wrote that book on fishing in the 1700s cant remember his name tho was he called samuel yates or something ?
