attempted session at tirley!

Well i decided to try and fish tirley court yesterday with my brother in law Gav who hasnt been carp fishing since over £5000 woth of kit got robbed out of his shed!! wrong 'uns! anyway after gettin in the car and setting off at roughly 7.30am, we arrived at the tirley at about 8. first thing i said was "bloody hell its rammed" where i was right because as we stepped out of the car an angler already fishing told us that the woman was'nt letting anybody else on! So that was that idea out of the window! Note to self, dont go to tirley at the weekend! lol.

So we had a rethink and decided to drive back to cheltenham and fish my local lake called burley fields lake. i havent fished this lake since the new bailiff has taken over and when we arrived i was pleased to see that it was'nt as busy as i thought it would be and also that the bailiff has cleared and cut the island and also tidied the lake well, also he has been kicking people off with no mats or incorrect nets. which is probably why it was'nt as busy as normal! . this should of been done a very long time ago in my opinion because i have seen some very poor carp care there in the past! So i praise him for his work. Anyway we set up on the left hand side of the lake and began to get our rods ready for the day.

I gathered some spare kit for Gav and then got my self sorted, i quickly tied on an orange tutti fruitti pop up onto a chod rig and cast it roughly 10 yards from the island. the lake is very silty and has deep clay so a choddy is perfect on here i think. the rod was in the water for aboud 5 minutes when a twitchy run occured so i struck and reeled in a pesky bream! anyway with a quick recast i carried on setting the second rod up. I flicked this rod under a willow tree on my right with a solid PVA bag and a 10mm solar banana and toffee pop up topped with a neutrally balanced fake sweetcorn to balance the boilie, with a running inline lead.

About 15 minutes later the right hand rod rattled off, and after a very good fight a 14LB common slipped into the net! By this time it was about 10.30am and the sun was out and beaming, i flicked the rod back under the tree with the same set up and waited for hopefully the same outcome. As you can guess the same result did'nt happen and now the carp were all in the upper layers basking! Normally i would'nt of minded this at all at got the floater gear out but with the new bailiff came new rules! No Surface Fishing! guttering considering how much i love it and how effective it used to be on this water!

So after waiting a few hours with nothing caught off the both rods something had to be done. after some thought me and Gav decided to give the zig rig a go. Something ive never tried but why not when everything else is failing eh? After a quick plumb around the water in front of me i recorded a rough depth of 5ft, i reeled the right hander in and unclipped my rig and attached roughly a 4 and halve ft mono hooklength with a size 8 coddy hook and a fake trout pellet hair rigged sideways tight to the bend of the hook.

With not very much confidence but lots of hope i chucked it out. fingers crossed now. Half an hour later and after lots of liners the rod finally screamed off! i strook and played the carp carefully, it felt very odd as you can feel the lead swinging about, after a couple a minutes the 11LB carp was mine and i was well chuffed after catching my first carp on a zig! to cut the story short i had three more after that on the zig weighing 10LB, 13LB and a lovely dark 8LBer, nothing huge but i was more than happy about catching on the zig! Gav also had his first carp on the zig and also another 2 off the bottom in the morning earlier that day so he was happy.

Overall a good day considering the conditions and having to go to plan B but at least we managed to go fishing! tight lines everyone and i hope you enjoyed my first ever catch report

i will post the pictures on the thread soon, thanks.
