| spodding SPODDING CARP bait comes in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, from hemp to maggots, corn and boilies. Although boilies can be fed at medium to long range with powerful catapults and throwing sticks, a huge number of successful baits are lightweight or irregularly shaped making them difficult to catapult anything other than short distances. Remote boats are expensive and beyond the pocket of many carpers and baiting from rowing boats is banned on most UK venues, leaving one key method for introducing feed - spodding. Devised back in the early 80s spods or bait rockets are the most effective way to accurately feed small baits long distances. Filled with any combination of baits, from grains of hemp to the tiniest micro pellets spods are simply cast to the required area. A buoyant nose cone ensures they flip over after hitting the water and simply drop your feed in a tight area below the rocket. The latest computer designed rockets are aerodynamic and incredibly stable in flight, coupled with powerful spod rods they allow us to be able to consistently bait with the tiniest of feeds within feet of a target even at very long ranges - subject to your casting accuracy. A good caster with balanced tackle can launch well designed spods up to 150 yards, beyond the ranges many caneffectively cast baited rigs. 80 |
