I was told once by very experanced angler that when ever you see fish jumping out of the water like that and it flops down onto the water with a splash the fish is trying to remove a parasite from itself. I have seen this my self at a trout fishery that had just recieved a contaminated stock of rainbows. The fish where just going mad they where jumping all over the place and all you could hear was the plop plop plop of these fish jumping all over the lake.
