back at Wadmill for 24hrs

I managed to book Friday off to sort out a hire car as my car has yet to be repaired. After picking my hire car, I decided to fish Todber manor for an overnighter on Wadmill Lake.

I arrived at 12:00 midday and by the time I had set up it was 2pm, by this point the mist that had been around since dawn finally lifted, and the lake looked spot on. I decided to fish the same peg as the last time I fished Wadmill and I decided to use Todbers own boilies as my main line of attack. I decided to fish 2 areas, 1 close to the Island and the other in open water.

I decided that I would fish with my Barbel rods, both being 1.75lb test curve. With 8lb line and safety rig using pre-tied Drennan Carp haired hooklength’s size 12 with 8lb line.

I know the picture say size 14, I was using the size 12, Honest Guv

I baited up the two pegs with the Boilies by catapulting out a dozen or so in each area. Then I casted the rigs out and settled down for the day and night. After around 30 minutes the right hand rod screamed off. As I stuck it felt like a good fish, then I felt the thump thump of heavy fish then suddenly the rod went slack, Ohh well perhaps the fish had slipped the hook. On retrieving the rig I noticed that the hook length had snapped just below the pre-tied knot, mm not happy about that then. So I changed the hook length to one of my own rigs on a size 10 hook with Preston .021mm hook length 10lb, I felt a bit more confident with my own knots. In not wanting to lose another fish in the same way I changed over the other rod as well.

On re-setting up my rods I settled down again. Within 10 minutes the right hand rod screamed off again this time landed the fish, not massive but a good fight on the light tackle.

By the evening I had land 6 fish and the biggest was 8lb. but all the fish were good fun and in very good condition.

I even had a nice Kio Mirror which didn’t know the words “Give Up” the fish fought for at least 10 minutes. I would love to play this fish when it’s in its 20’s

As the light started to fail and the temperature started to fall the fishing seemed to get better with the average fish being 6lb. I continued to fish till 11pm when I called it a night and with 16 fish caught and with a busy week I needed to sleep.

But before darkness fell I managed a nice shot (well I think so) of a soft sunset.

I awoke at 7am and with 20 minutes I was fishing again and no soon as I settled in my seat my rod screamed of again and again a another average fish of 6lb.

After a few funny texts with Twiddler, I Had a Fantastic bite as I struck I knew this was no 6lb carp, as the fish swam towards I had reel in really fast to keep up with it, then that battled started, I saw the fish top twice and the fish was 10lb+ then out of nowhere the hook just pulled and I lost the battle.

I continued to fish till 12pm and had a few other 6lb fish in total I landed 23 fish, I really enjoyed myself and I am looking forward to my next fishing trip.

Re: back at Wadmill for 24hrs

well done Steve, nice session, I have found that the bigger fish at wadmill will break you off dead easy, it is almost tempting to go a bit to large with the tackle to hold them, there are some cracking doubles in there if you can find them, and even some mid twenties.

Must try and get there again myself. I am hoping for a day there after easter as I have a week off.
