Re: Tackle help

What i would say is, if you are just starting out then don't go mad and buy all the best gear as it's not so much the equipment it's the fisherman behind it that counts so start small and build up.

Graham.

Re: Tackle help

i agree, don't go out buying top stuff just yet & it'll work out so expensive.
during my 12 year break from fishing, i managed to loose my rods, landing net & handle, but still had my tackle box & keep net. i got the zebco carp set from argos £99.99. ok, the rods probably arean't the best on the market, but also got 2 reels, good length of 13lb line, carp landing net & handle, unhookingmatt/weighing sling, rod bag & a few other bits, enough to get started at a reasonable price.
despite the rods being low end & didn't see a test curve, i've found them resposnive to both small & big bites. (my catches can bee seen on my catch reports).
otherwise if jpoined a club, chat with the other anglers to see what they recommend as suitable for the match venues, or your local tackle shop & always start with the basics & slowly build up your kit ... ie. regular tackle box rather than full on seat box, better spending £20 or so on a tackle box, then you can fill it with the basics, then in time, when you get a seat box, you've got all the basics already to put in it.

Re: Tackle help

The problem with today match circuit is that alot of the match fishing is based around catching carp. not everything but most. I would look towards kit that can handle carp, no point buying a 3mtr whip and fishing for 6lb carp. look at the type of matching fishing/ general fishing that you are going to do and taylor your kit to that, you dont have to spend a fortune on the kit. Leeda do some nice match carp rods and poles at good prices same as middy. like it was said earlier its the fisherman not the kit that catches the fish.

Have a look at the basic fishing kit post i did last week or so for some ideas

Re: Tackle help

have a look around and see what starter kits there are . A good tackle shop will help you get on your way . My advice don't run before you can walk so just learn to pleasure fish then decide if you want to go into match fishing.
