Which rod to buy?

Im new to carp fishing and im looking for a nice feeder/carp rod for around £25-£40, but there are so many rods out there it difficult to know what to buy, and i dont know where to start with matching a reel to a rod!

I'll be fishing commercial carp fisheries to start with but i would like to river fish with the same rod at some point too, is this possible.

some ideas i had were:

rod: http://www.fishtec-coarse.co.uk/Prod...pListRec=38558

reel:http://www.fishtec-coarse.co.uk/Prod...pListRec=38549

Any help would be much appreciated

Re: Which rod to buy?

one question about the shimano reel, most baitrunners, inc my current Shakespeare have a switch on so you can operate the drag, how come the shimano doesn't have one?

cheers

Re: Which rod to buy?

the switch you mention is to put the reel into freespool (baitrunner right) if so that shimano pictured does not have one because its not a baitrunner its a rear drag match reel

thanks for the info! whats are the advantages/ differences of rear drag, front drag, baitruners? i know baitrunners are used for carp but what are the advantages of the other types and what type of fishing are they designed for? Would i be able to use a baitrunner non-carp fishing?

too many questions i know, but the variety of rods and reels ot there is a little bewildering!

Re: Which rod to buy?

hi yes you can use a baitrunner for feeder fishing etc and they are also built in with a rear drag,i would recomend a baitrunner if you want to do carp fishing aswell as feeder and you dont want to purchase seperate reels, the okuma interceptors and epix are an excellent reel at a budget price i own an interceptor pro for my feeder fishing in a size 30 it cost me £30 off ebay.. the difference between front drag and rear drag is on a front drag real you adjust how much line tention from the front of the reel and a rear drag you adjust from the rear (much better in my oppinion as said most baitrunners have rear drag cheers adam
