Re: Line strength

It would depend on your situation , Distance of cast If it was a weedy water , clay or gravel bottom etc etc. plus what size lead being used
For eg i use 8lb when distance fishing with a 50lb shock leader
normal fishing i use 12/15lb max, matched with a max 15lb hook link

Makes sense to me, especially if you are using 8lb line.

Re: Line strength

If fishing at distance ,ie 1oo yds plus i only use like i said 8lb line .i use a shock leader for the same reason as in any other type of fishing .where a lead is used.
I use 4 oz leads and if a crack off /line snap happened at the speed the lead was traveling it would travel for miles ,so i am preventing this and hopefully the guy/girl on the opposite bank will not get a lead travelling towards the at 200mph
