The method.

I have never tried "the method" before, basically because i have never seen how the rig is made or set up Is there a diagram anywhere that i can see for myself? I have read how o do it but i am one of these laymans terms people and i prefer a diagram to follow. Please excuse my ignorance but i really would like to give it a go this weekend as ive heard nothing but good things about it. Also a new one on me is the polaris float. Heard lots of good reports about these too and im considering buying a set of 3 on ebay.

Re: The method.

Stevie please see below

“The method”

There are many different method feeders out there, some with elastic running through the middle, some that used for matches and some that are used for carp fishing.

This is how I set all my method feeders whether it is for big fish or pasties.

I do tend to favour the coil feeder, but this diagram I have used the fox method feeder.

Feed your main line through the centre of the method feeder

And then attach the line to a swivel using the Palomar Knot.

Stage 1

Pass the line through the swivel and do a double loop, and then pass the looped end over the swivel

Then moisten and pull the knot together.

Slide the method feeder up to the swivel and there you have you rig. If you are using a coil feeder place a rubber bead in-front of the swivel as this will act as shock absorber.

Know attach your hook length, a good choice is between 4lb and 6lb line with a hook of 12 – 14, I tend to use spade end hooks but that is down to your choice. I tend to fish a 4 to 6 inch hook length.

There are two trains of thought on how the method should be fished, the hook bait in the ball of ground bait, or fishing with hook bait away from the ball. I tend to fish away from the ball; I have found this better for me. However, that is down to your own choice.

Recommendations:

To fish the method you need a rod with a bit of back bone, as the balls of feed can put a lot of pressure on the rod when casting. I would recommend a rod with at least a 1lb and ¾ test curve, there are specialist method rods out there as well, but I wouldn’t use a normal feeder rod unless it has 3 – 4 oz tip, because if the rod is to light you will break it. If however you only have a light rod then I would recommend that you fish with small coil feeders as they won’t weigh as much.

Or you could try fishing the feeder as seen below.

I hope this all helps and catches you fish. Let me know how you get on.

Regards, Steve

Re: The method.

one more thing, hold on to your rod, because the bites can take the rod of rest in a blink of an eye.

Good luck tomorrow

Re: The method.

Quick update. Thoroughly enjoyed my days fishing and the method is an effective yet simple way of fishing. I did well on bread flake on the surface too (nothing massive but good fun) and i even had an hour on small pellet fishing for tiddlers. I find it really interesting to see what small fish are in a lake. I had rudd, Roach, the smallest Koi ive ever seen, some small bream and baby Carp of all kinds. It was great fun even though none of them were bigger than 3 inches long. Cant wait for the next one. The only downside is that most of the 1lb + Carp in the pond were badly mouth damaged. Does anyone on here fish Thwaite lake 1? Some of the poor things could hardly feed. I felt sorry for them when i caught one.

Re: The method.

Hope "Admin" doesn't mind, but these are excellent links, from another site, to a couple of articles and videos on fishing The Method, particularly about the mix of groundbait:
