Re: Whats this?

OMG here we go, guessing game......I think it might be a hybrid of a common and some ornamental/koi carp....or a type of ornamental carp but I'm no expert.

BTW, welcome to the forum jhock

Re: Whats this?

Thanks Steve,

it's the biggest Gold Fish I have ever seen! It was about 4-5lb and it fought light a demon. Not quite as hard as the 13lb common I had in the same session, lots of fun on the pole!

Re: Whats this?

Hi Jhock, and welcome to the forum.

I noticed in your other post the bream had a distinct red tinge to it, I wonder if some treatment has been applied to the lake, that strong red is unusual in carp, it has definite common carp, the barbels show that, and as steve says, probably a goldfish cross to get that colour. Has the lake been treated for a parasite problem, the red dyes could have been used for that which would distort the colours.

Well done on catching on the pole, not something I have tried yet either.

Re: Whats this?

You could be right, I am new to the lake so I am not sure, but I have couple of Carp that where a bit odd, I had a fully scaled mirror that was almost gold about the same weight. The bigger fish I had where 'normal' in colour. Does not seem to affected the fishing, a least for me at any rate.

Re: Whats this?

It's on the La Farge (Blue circle) cement works site. It well kept and only £25 a year!

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...09999&t=h&z=17

There's a bit more foliage now and it got metal platforms to fish from.

Re: Whats this?

Right i know where you meen, That explains the red Tinge then, The lake bed is red clay and alot of the carp go red this time of year for some reason as do the bream. I used to fish the lake when the lake first got dug and everything used be red at the end of the day. if you are thinking of match fishing, join airspung, as they hold regular matches, Go to wests tackle in Trowbridge Steve the Owner will put you in the right direction. Its nice to see another Wiltshire member on the Forum
