| Not a sausage....... Well after many years in the wilderness ( haven’t been fishing for years ) I went on my first carp expedition last Sunday. It was an old gravel pit at Waben, next to Berk ( Northern France) and is only about 30 minutes from home. As I arrived one guy who had been fishing all night had landed a 25lb mirror so I thought that looks hopeful. He did tell me the carp here are big but very difficult to catch……he was right It was freezing cold first thing in the morning but with the sun out, it soon warmed up. I’d made my own boilies using the suggested receipt of Norfolkboy adding a couple of flavours. I did introduce a few samples of the bait I was using a few days before. I tried fishing in deep water, around 8 – 10 meters and also in one area which seemed to come up to around 3 meters before dropping off again, I even change to sweet corn but absolutely nothing. I was ledgering, using a hair ring on a 15lb braid, mainline was the same strain and I was wondering if this setup was completely invisible to the carp, erm yes I’ve be reading the article on the Moorland fishers site. I also noticed some fresh water mussels so was thinking maybe I need to be thinking about using a different bait or even making boiliers with mussels. I’ve be doing a little more prebaiting this week with some of the boiliers I’ve made to see if this will help tempt the stubborn large so & so’s as I’m going back again next Sunday. Do you think I should try something with mussels if I can get something made up, if anyone can suggest perhaps another setup or any other advice it would be truly appreciated. |
