Help needed for 2 nighter this week??

Hello everyone,

I'm after some advice..I have booked Thusday and Friday off from work this week and plan on doing 2 nights on my local lake...I have only had a 5lb mirror out float fishing for tench earlier on this year..

I will be fishing 2 rods on alarms...This time of year would you calm down on the free offerings?..I was thinking of one rod in the margin with a single bright pop up..And fish the other rod 30 yrds out to a ledge with a small pva bag and fireing out the odd free offering..

Whould you do things differently this time of year..I am fairly new to this...Carp do come out of the lake but are few and far between...Its more of a case of the challenge..I could go to a commercial and catch loads...But i want one from this place..

Also would you go for sweet..savoury..fishy..???

Thanks in advance...wayne

Re: Help needed for 2 nighter this week??

Hi, I would take several pints of red maggots. I've found using a medium to Large maggot feeder with most holes blocked up with brown masking tape to slow the release rate down very good, you then have a short hook length of between 3 & 6 inch with a bunch of hair rigged maggots on a maggot clip for a size 6 to 8 hook, but you could go down to a size 10 or 12 and hair rig three or four of those plastic maggots you can now get, this would be best if there are lots of Perch and roach etc in the lake which would nibble real maggots to bits. This method has worked for me recently with carp to low double figures, try it down the margins, you may still get a few decent tench aswell!
You could also use a pva bag for this method. What i do is freeze a couple of pints of maggots the night before i go, dead maggots are good coz they won't crawl away! dust them in ground bait for added attraction.
As for boilies, i would find out whats working at the moment before going.
I wouldn't pile the boilies in untill you can gage how the fish are feeding once you are there. Hope this is handy advice, have a good session.

Will

A little something that has done me some favours with carp on a cold night is a bit of Pepperarmi.

It is a good strong bait, nice flavour trail if you puncture the surface a few times, hair rigs dead easy and will stay on all night doing its stuff.

It currently accounts for my largest carp, caught at 3 in the morning on a frosty night.

I would keep the beds of bait down after the initial feed to get them in the area. Little and often can bring back fish to a spot they fed before.

Good luck and don't forget the camera as I want to see some pictures of fish on the bank.

Just straight out of the pack. Cut it up into boilie sized Pisces and puncture the skin a bit to let the flavour out. You could try Marmite as well at this time of year. I use it as a dip or mixed with semolina flour to make a paste.
