What gear to buy ?

I'm looking at investing in a couple of carp rods and a couple of reels.

Rod budget £200-250
Reel budget about £100

I've been looking for what seems weeks and cannot make up my mind.

I already have a 2.75 Fox Trekker (still not used it yet) so I could save myself a few quid and get another, but I don't know if these rods are really any good for regular commercial fisheries or if they are only worth having for travelling and hence irregular use.

I've also been looking at TGF.

Any recommendations would be more than welcome.

Also, if anyone has any way of making them invisible when I walk them through the house to the shed I'd appreciate it.

Cheers

Mark

Hi mate,

You can't go wrong with a pair of Greys Prodigy rods, around £99 each, but could probably get a deal on 2 if you looked around.

As for reels, can't beat a set of Shimano's, but you'd struggle to get a couple of new ones for £100.

Re: What gear to buy ?

hello mate,
i was in a similar predicament a few years back and found the perfect rod,it is the shimano catana,a nice light rod with enough meat in it to easily cast out a method feeder, the shimano hyperloop are also very good, (on e bay reasonably cheap )

Mark
i have perfected my method after years of practise,i buy whatever i want from the tackle shop the day before i go fishing, leave it in the car overnight, then it goes straight iin the shed after fishing with the rest of the gear, never let me down yet

reels are a personal thing, but i can't fault the diawa regal's ,my baitrunners are good reliable reels and only cost about £45

Re: What gear to buy ?

Well Ive got Fox Warrior XT Rods and Shimano baitrunner aero gte 8000

Fox Warrior XT Rods 3lb = £49.99

Shimano baitrunner aero 8000 = £67.00 ish

I think you cannot go wrong my Fox Warrior XT Rods which I find really good as in the winter they will be great for piking and zanders.

Re: What gear to buy ?

OK, I'm convinced.

Warrior XT's and Shimano's

2.75's or other ?

I believe the higher you go the more problems under the rod tip ?

Bearing in mind I am a beginner !

I thought I was convinced.

I just read the review on the Fox Stratos FS10000 reel.

This is driving me insane.

I have three 2.75's. No need to go any higher for me as I don't do a lot of fishing at distance! It all depends on where you are fishing and what terminal tackle you will be using! Longer distance fishing with heavy bags or weights means higher TC.
