ledgering question

hi ..i started fishing this year im really hooked , having lots of successful weekends but I need to ask a question..When ledgering on the bottom ,a carp takes the bait and bite alarm sounds , the fish starts to run and takes the slack out of the line which the bobbin is attached to , then i grab for the rod and bingo...on TV shows the alarm is sounding and the line is screaming off the reel why is their rod not dragged into the water ? is the clutch set very low or what probably a silly question but i need to know cheers Andy

Re: ledgering question

There useing reels call baitrunners which have a switch at the back that when on lets the line out freely . Like haveing the bail arm open on your reel.

I will see if I can sort a piccy out for you

There not that dear a reel from about £30.00

Hi ,
As Richard says the most popular reel nowadays is the baitrunner but when carp fishing I use a fixed spool with the bail arm open which allows the line to run freely then just half a turn on the handle and the arm will spring back - hopefully connecting with the fish !
good luck
Doug
