Re: Floating chum mixer for carp

I enjoy this method with both bread crust or mixers on a calm summer day.I give them plenty of freebies until they're slurping away and then put in my own bait. I find the best way to attach the hook is with the rubber bands used for dental braces - they're really strong and relatively cheap. Other people recommend superglue but I found it messy.
If I need distance I use a float controller, otherwise I tie the hook direct to the main line

when i used to go carp fishing we used to fish with mixer most of the time.. and found the spar's own brand of mixer worked best as if you soak them in water for 5-10 mins and then leave them too dry in the sun they turn crispy on the outside but they are rubbery on the inside...so they hold to the hook well have a bit more extra weight to cast them that bit further

Re: Floating chum mixer for carp

What I've been doing lately is colouring the mixers. If you put in about 30 mixers in a small sandwich bag then add some liquid colouring, shake it around for a few minutes. Then leave it overnight.

In the morning they are absoloutely perfect for hooking. No need to bother with glue or bands, or hair rigs, simply hook. They don't fly off on the cast, nuisance fish don't knock them off and I think they give you a slight edge.

1st time using them my dad beat his pb 3 times (12.5lb the biggest) and I had 6 fish to 7lb 8oz in 1 afternoon.

I never chuck out too many freebies, about 5 as you then have a 1 in 5 chance of catching, where as if you throw in say 20, you then have a 20 in 1 chance...pretty simple really

The wholemeal ones that look like canoes, are good too! Pva mesh filled with about 6 - 7, helps cast better and stays around the same area!!

Re: Floating chum mixer for carp

I don't throw in freebies, i've noticed the carp might take one or two then dissapear. One banded dog biscuit, with a controller, caught me two fish in two casts at the weekend (one was 13lb3). I only try when i can see fish at the top though, i normally float fish but every 40 mins or so have a walk round and try to spot them. Its great fun thats for sure.

Re: Floating chum mixer for carp

Have u tried the artificial weighted mixer? It really does work, he weight is placed so that the hook is always on top of the bait. Good when the going gets tough.
