What size bait with a method feeder Hey I'm new to carp fishing and tried out the method feeder the other. Caught a few fish but was fairly quiet. But I'm still confused what size bait and hook to use. Some websites say size 8 or 10 but some say 16 or 14. And Im not sure what the best size bait to use either. Any help appreciated Thanks Matt

Re: What size bait with a method feeder If i'm fishing for carp, I fish a size 10 hook and use a prawn as bait, or a 1cm section of a king prawn. It seems to work an absolute treat. But if it's silver fish your after I usually go smaller with a size 12 or 14 hook an use Sonubaits hooker pellets or 2 red maggots.

Re: What size bait with a method feeder Depends on your water (and the fish size) but I would go for a 13mm Boilie ! You could try from 6mm right up to 19mm if you like ! Try 'em all and see what gives ! Good Luck ! Ripple.

Re: What size bait with a method feeder normally the hook bait is the same as the ingredients of the feeder mix, whatever combination you use for your mix use same on the hook or multiples thereof __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.

If you aproach them softly and keeping low so-as not to scare any fish in their swim they are often eagre to help with what baits they are using and what end tackle may be more effective. They may even offer to set you up and get you going. If anyone approached me on a water that I know well I would be only too willing to help if I can and my mates would do the same. we were all in the same boat at one time or other. Failing that I would match my hook to the size of my bait eg' for a small 5 to 7mm bait I would try a size 14 or 12 hook but with an 11mm bait I might use a size 6 or 8 hook. I suppose it depends on the sizes of the fish you are trying to catch and what tackle and line strengths you are using. But there is nothing quite as good as 'good' local knowledge so don't be afraid to approach a 'good' angler on the bank and pick their brains. Usually if there were no other people to pick the brains from and I wasn't sure about the average size of the fish in the lake then I would start off with smaller diameter line, hooks and baits and only increase this when and if I found out different.
