| New bait works brilliantly! When carp fishing you might choose to fish with boilies and pellets, but honestly, a nice piece of luncheon meat/spam spiced with either madras or hot curry powder works brilliantly! I have caught many carp, chub, tench and good roach with this bait. what you do is: 1. cube the luncheon meat/spam into the desired size. 2. add the spice - make sure you get it on every side of the cubes. 3. Put them in the freezer overnight in a sandwich bag(this makes the flavour soak into the meat and not just stay on the outside) but leave the bag open. 4. Take it out a couple of hours before you go fishing so that it defrosts and the flavor is spread throughout the cubes. This is an excellent bait and hopefully it will work for you as well as it worked for me! Tight Lines, Happy Fishing, Aidrian Craven. |

| Re: New bait works brilliantly! Hi Adrian, Welcome to the forum. In these days of Boilies and Pellets a lot of anglers don't use anything else, but I always carry a small tin of spicey luncheonmeat with me whether I am after Carp, Tench, Chub or Barbel. The only drawbacks are if your water is plagued with Signal or Turkish Crayfish which will home in on it and eat away at it very quickly; or if you need to cast any real distance. As you say it can be flavoured by placing pieces of meat in a plastic bag together with your flavouring then after a good shake freezing and defrosting it which will infuse the flavour into the meat; it can also be bought ready flavoured in tackleshops although it is a tad more expensive to buy it that way. You can also fry one or two sides to make it stay on the hook a little easier during the cast. For hair rigging I find the pre-flavoured 'spicey/chilli' Luncheonmeat that you can buy from most good tackleshops a lot better than normal luncheonmeat mainly because it is much firmer and less fatty and stays on the hair a lot easier, but it costs a lot more. Also if you use the firmer meat directly on the hook then ensure that your hook point is potruding to make hooking the fish a lot easier. In the colder months I also coat my luncheonmeat with a soft paste to add extra attraction so that the fish may be tempted by the extra flavour trail being emmitted from the bait. I either use a round meat punch to punch regular sized pieces for the hook and for firing out accurately with a catapult, or tear irregular pieces from a block of meat if I think they prefer it that way. Welcome to the forum Adrian. I look forward to reading your posts. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
