| Re: Brazil Nuts as hookbait Good man. I'll give it a try. Where would you suggest picking some of that up from? 1ml per kilo? Feck that must be potent stuff. I do tend to go over the top on the flavour application. Those Brazils stunk of talin after I finished. Only realised on the last day of the weekend that I didn't have enough cork on them to pop them up though. Ah well, lesson learned. ![]() |

| Re: Brazil Nuts as hookbait Mr J! I think you may be getting pulled into the lets try the "latest fad syndrome". I think you might need to concentrate more on bait presentation and feeding your swim with the right ground bait, rather than trying the latest guaranteed to catch bait from super dynamitekordasonic. If you get the ground baiting right then you get the fish into your swim. Carp will pick up most things, suck them in, see if they like it and spit it out if they don't. Hence the reason why hair rigs work so well. It is not the sucking in that hooks the fish, but when they spit it back out. The hook lodges in the corner of the mouth and bingo! your in. How many Carp do you catch that are deep hooked? I have never had one. During the summer oily baits and feeds such as halibut and trout pellets work really well, because the higher water temperatures allow the oils to be released from the bait and spread in the water. During the winter the metabolism of the fish slows right down, more traditional baits such as chopped worm work well because they are a more natural bait to the fish, that is not really looking to feed too heavily. My experience has shown that sweet baits work well in winter. My favourites include sweetcorn and maple glugged boilies. When Carp do feed in the winter they do it slowly, and it is almost exclusively on the bottom. Make sure your bait is nailed to the bottom and use either fluro carbon hook lengths or a camouflaged trace to match the bottom.
