| Particles/Pulses soaked for bit longer than planned. I started preparing pigeon conditioner and chickpeas, hemp etc a couple of days ago, ready for boiling and then to go into a method mix. The plan was to go fishing today, but due to various reasons, I cant go till Saturday. Due to this, the pigeon conditioner has been soaking in bucket for 3 days, and the hemp/chickpeas etc for 2 days, so far. I was gonna boil em tonight, leave em soaking for another 24 hours in their juices and make the method mix up tomorrow night, ready for saturday. Being new to preparing my particles etc I was not sure how long the pulses etc last before going off, as basically they will have been in water for 3/4 days, before I make the mix the day before fishing. They smell ok, and thankfully the damp weather means its very cool out in the shed. Will they still be ok to use. Thanks |

| Re: Particles/Pulses soaked for bit longer than planned. Just another question Because I have limited space here j was looking at ways to boil baits... A burco boiler seems a good way and I am looking for a cheap one at the moment.. I have also come across soup kettles and wondered if these would be suitable too? | Re: Particles/Pulses soaked for bit longer than planned. Hi Dave. I have got pigeon conditioner..assume thats similar to the pigeon mix you mentioned. My mate said to let the pigeon conditioner soak for 48 hours and boil for 30, however most sites said the usual 24hrs soak, 30 mins boil. Right enough we are using it in a method mix, so perhaps soaking longer makes a difference, as opposed to using as a spod mix or whatever? As I only prepare smaller quantities the missus hasnt kicked me out the kitchen yet. I did read somewhere that, but this was possibly for hemp only - place the seed in a cool box, then pour in boiling water and place lid back on the box, and leave overnight. I suppose it acts like a large vacuum flask and does the job similar to boiling, but believe that may have only been for hemp. |

| Re: Particles/Pulses soaked for bit longer than planned. yes baz ive done that with hemp......come back to it in the morning and all the seeds are split....(almost all of them) .. i tend to do it once leave it 12 hours drain the water reboil it and pour it back over the hemp....just to make sure its fully done... i will soak it for a couple days and boil it on sun night .... ive also just brought a rolling table and gun ect to try and make my own boilies....as i dont have freezer space....10kg of boilies is cheaper than 1kg.. but with no freezer i can only store 1kg.. however...i can store 100kg of base mix in a bucket.. and just roll the boiles as and when i need them this is an even cheaper way to get bait and if it all works i think it will be a satisfying way of fishing too.. knowing that the fish are feeding on something i made! __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think! |
