| Re: Surface fishing; bait The 'Pedigree Chum Mixer' recipe seems to have changed over the years, we used to soak them and shake off the water the night before and in the morning they were soft but easily firm enough to cast 30 yards (using a surface controller); and if you left them in soak they turned into a milky coloured floating jelly type bait which caught us some nice Carp and Tench on our clubs silty bottomed estate lake when suspended from just above the silt up to just below the surface. But nowerdays the chum mixers don't seem to be as good for this, perhaps they use less gelatine in their makeup. One good floating bait that I havent seen anyone using for quite a while is a lobworm with it's head section inflated with a syringe or with a small piece of red foam attached to the hook to make it float; with the worms tail wriggling enticingly below the surface it is a great surface bait for margin feeding Carp. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
