Re: what bait is best to catch carp?

most important thing to catching carp is location, find out where the carp want to feed, present a bait there and you have a good chance of catching it.

the mags wont tell you this cos that doesn't sell end tackle or bait and the sellers of these pay for advertising.

also unlike what the mags tell you do not pile the bait in, if you have your bait where the fish are then a single hookbait will work. only put enough bait in for one fish, one small handfull is sufficient. you can always add bait to the water but you cant take it out once its there

location location location

How long do you actually spend looking for fish before you actually cast ,
250 Big carp , what do you class as big and how big is the lake .
I would be on a zig mate with this warm weather ,the fish will be starting to patrol mid and upper water levels ,
Find the fish . find the depth of lake ,
then fish a zig at about half way ,
give it a hour then try deeper or shallower (nearer the surface )
If you fishing 2 rods move one up and one down till you get the depth you find the fish out

i know where they feed, but cant seem to catch them.
in the lake they start from 10lb up to about 40 lb. the lake has 9 swims on but only aloud 6 on at a time.
Theres a few guys go up there and we are all struggling. i didnt know if there is any different of good bait which may help.

Re: what bait is best to catch carp?

I think the carp are only just starting to recover from the cold weather so maybe they are just not feeding yet, I went for two days last week without a bite

Re: what bait is best to catch carp?

I have heard that due to the very cold winter, the insects were about 2 weeks late getting started this year, so when they did go there was an absolute explosion of them.

This has meant all lake are absolutely bursting with natural food at the moment, and as the carp are building up to spawn then protein is what they are after, and all the insect and worm are full of it.

I would be trying a meaty bait, not too fatty but loads of flavour.

You are competing with a few million insect larva and bloodworm, so present it well, in the right place, that will catch them, and do not overfed, loads of pellets and groundbait will just have them feed a bit then off for more protein.

I think a single bait, or a teabag pva of small offerings is enough, and the zig rig is always worth a go in the warmer months, but it is not one I have mastered yet.
