Re: homemade boilie or buy?

I have mine rolled for me , Works out a lot less exspensive than buying ready mades ,
The enisitial set up for making your own is not cheap ,with flavours , colours ,sweetners etc etc , but once you have these you then only have to buy the base mix and add to it a few of your own bits and pieces

Re: homemade boilie or buy?

When I have the time, I like to make my own,I am always a bit mean on baits so i don't need much.
I feel that car etc are seeing so many shop bought types, esp on waters that either have an onsite shop or in the catchment area of others, point being that a home made boilie is likely to have an edge due its differnces and individuality when compared to mass produced ones.
When I have made my own I have always done well. Sadly my boilie gun went 'missing', so when I do make my own, its hand rolling. Tedious but I feel that also gives me another advantage in that the shapes are not so uniform.

Re: homemade boilie or buy?

The 'gun', is the same as you would use for squeezing out pastes or similar for D.I.Y, might be called a mastic gun. Well you put in your paste in, where the sealant or what ever would go, and choosing a nozzle which would give you the correct size of boilie squeeze away.
Then with a rolling table, which is a set of two trays with grooves cut in which should match the size of nozzle your using, then the 'sausage' of paste gets laid between and the two are rubbed together, result is a load of perfectly identical round balls, which when boiled til the skins go hard are boilies.
Bound to be better description somewhere on the net.

Re: homemade boilie or buy?

Have a look in the carp section of the forum, thats where I got the base mix from, saved loads.
If you like I'll pm you my recipes. I keep things simple, and try to be seasonal, I'll know if this year projects have been successful later on after the meet at todber.

Re: homemade boilie or buy?

rolled my own for many years from scratch using ingridients from cc moore this is my first season using someone else's bait and to be honest haven't had no where near as much success as i did with my own dont think you can beat freshly rolled bait just wish i could afford a rolling machine as it's bloody hard work
