| Can anyone recommend a . . . . . . boat rod, I'm going fishing over Christmas on a boat in the solent, I will probably treat myself to a rod - well it is Christmas - but don't want to spend a huge amount (Max 60 quid), just in case I decide to stick to dry land. Can anyone recommend a reasonable rod, I've been looking at Shakespeare Ugly stick or the Shimano range, but don't know what to consider (what class, what length). It needs to be a bit of a general purpose boat/pier rod? I don't know, all help gratefully received. PS Am planning to use either a fixed spool reel (Penn Captiva) or Abu 6500 CS Multiplier (Again haven't a clue what to use). | Re: Can anyone recommend a . . . I have an uptider - Abu Conolon and another rod for the wrecks which is only cheap. I am going to do the same as you and get nother boat rod but you need to decide what its being used for ? If its wrecks and heavy ground fishing I believe the ugly sticks are very good and certainly what Im intending to buy - if its uptiding etc. in shallower water or lighter work its probably worth getting an abu uptider - they are excellent -Rich has two of them so Im sure hell add his advice. Generally though I think the ugly stick range is supposed to be top notch ! __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up ! |

| Re: Can anyone recommend a . . . Hi all, According to the information given it has got to be an uptider. One of the most versatile rods on the market, can be used for virtually all sorts of fishing, uptiding - downtiding - wrecking - beachcasting - piers - spinning and just about everything else that you want to use it for. Every sea angler should have one. Coupled with an Abu 7000, you might just get away with a 6500, reel and a couple of spare spools with different lines it would serve you for all your fishing needs. | Re: Can anyone recommend a . . . Lee, sorry only just seen your post, thanks for the offer, I ended up buying a Leeda Northstar, pleased with it, and more importantly didn't honk on my first boat trip, so will hopefully be going on a few more now. Thanks for the offer. Tony ![]() __________________ It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming. ~John Steinbeck |
