Re: Boat fishing rod

Check out some of the tackle shops in the fishing mags as they often do combination rod and reel deals.

I have a couple of 20 & 30lb Shakespeare Ugly Stik boat rods that I think I very good. I use an Abu 7000 reel. Gus or John will be able to point you towards good equipment. We know Gus makes good end gear as well as wrecking kit that is very reasonable priced. Did you see Andy's prizes?

Re: Boat Fishing Rod Help

Ben your budget will get you kitted out no problem. It won't get you Floatation suit and the winter gear, but it will certainly get you your tackle. Talk to gus and see what he gear he has to sell at the moment. An Ugly Stik 20 or 30lb rod shouldn't set you back much more than £50 if you look around. Good combo's available for around a £100. I would go for a 20/30lb rod, but others might have a different view.

Re: Boat Fishing Rod Help

I go with Downsouth a 20-30lb rod will cope with most things in the sea as long as your drag is set on your reel

I will see what deals are about but the sea angler is a good place to start as it gives you an idea what special deals are around

Re: Boat Fishing Rod Help

yeah, i wasnt expecting to be able to get a floation suit with that, wait till it gets abit colder till i invest in 1 of them
andyg reminded me of a good combo he saw in tony's tackel, £110 for aShakespeare Ugly Stick Elite boat rod 30lb and Penn 320 GTI reel
so i might go for that, but at the moment im gonna carry on looking in mags and stuff
