Talking Skate to 200lb

Right you guys, after having a laugh at my beautifully petite bream I will be upset if there aren't any takers for a piece of this!

Ronnie Campbell, skipper of 'Laura Dawn' specialises in skate fishing and hauls up beasts of 200lb+ on 50lb tackle I've been reading in 'Boat Fishing' magazine. He does this out of Oban, a truly bleak destination 3 hours drive NW of Glasgow.

I'll do all the arranging and I reckon we should go for a long weekend and fish for a couple of days. Return flights to Glasgow will be £50 each. BnB will be dirt cheap and that leaves the fishing to pay for which won't be too much I don't reckon.

Who's up for a piece of this then?

Re: Skate to 200lb

Love to but the moneys a bit tight for a month or two

Also I think the season is ending soon

Big but - I think the idea is cracking as it would be great to go fishing and then a quick wash and out for a curry with the boat crew a def for me in the future

Now andyg are you sure you can handle a fish over 4oz ?

Re: Skate to 200lb

Aye Richard (AKA SKATEMAN), I knew you'd be up for it! Aye very funny by the way, some of my mackerel were 1/2lb+ .............

Anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of next year, maybe the start of next summer. That way we could save up or put in £25 a month x 10 months = £250. Book the flights with easyjet for about £35, BnB about £25 a night and spend the rest on the boat and beer! Or if someone with a nice big car fancies driving we all chip in for petrol and we can share the drive, 2 hours each.

Ideal number would be 5 of us I reckon!?

Anyway these are just ideas, if any one else has other thoughts or would be up for a trip like this then let us know, hopefully some of the regular names will be up for it and some new folks might like to join us, maybe some of our Scottish members!?

Re: Skate to 200lb

sounds like a great idear but i think a 200lb skate would pull me in!!
the channal islands or france would be another couple of good destinations for along weekends fishing, especialy if we get the boat team together, by the way you can put my name down for that

Re: Skate to 200lb

If it is of any help I will be in the Oban area next week on holiday and i could get a bit more info for you on the fishing times and B&B's. Just let me know by tomorrow night up until 11.00pm.

Cheers
Shaun
