Re: Anchoring

hi growler
i have the same type of boat and use an Alderney ring method becouse of the size of the cabin, and it works a treat.
i fish broken/ rough ground or sand/shingle up to 100 feet deep and use a 6 kg claw anchor, 25 foot of 8mm chain and ????meters of 12mm rope
also as said by cork bouy d shackels are so much better in a small space like are boats and getting rid of the fender helps no end
just one thing to add is remember that the wieght of the chain must be more than the anchor

as for rope cutters , dont rely on them to much, but ambasserders are the best and stand a good chance of doing somethink on light rope.
spurs are ok , but not as good
and disc cutters are only good for seaweed

Re: Anchoring

Hi All
Only just come across this thread.

I also have a 535 and am in the process of fitting a windlass.

Re: Anchoring

Good thread this,
Steve a good informative read, a real help to the novice.
MN, I also use the alderney ring with no problems, your point of a second pair of eyes is a must for the first timer.(and the next twenty)

Growler if your not sure, single handed....don't do it.

Re: Anchoring

Hello, Tell me more about you fitting a windlass. Is it a DIY or a profession job.
Regards, DBM.

Re: Anchoring

Hi
Fairly straight forward DIY.
I suppose the biggest problem is running the supply wiring from the battery to the windless as each being opposite ends of the boat therefore having to be relatively large so as not to loose current or to overheat them.
I don’t use the cabin for other than storing stuff so I just fitted another battery below the windless under the foredeck control by the switch supplied so not having to use lots of expensive cable. This does mean if single handed I won’t be able to see a lot and I will have to leave the helm. I will get round to fitting it properly -- one day!
The tools required are electric drill, drills, hole cutter adjustable spanner, silicon gun, wire crimpers & a course file. A jig saw is very useful but not essential.
The kit comes with Control Switch, Templates, Nuts & Bolts & Wire Joiners.
You get a Users/Fitting instruction book plus a real Aussie “G’Day mate”! DVD fitting instruction. You will also need a suitable Bow Roller.
If you send me a PM with your email address I will email you a copy of the instruction book and if I can make a copy I could send you a copy of the DVD.
Tight lines –fishing & anchor
David.

Re: Anchoring

Hi DBM

Don’t seem to be having a lot of luck with this email lark!
Tried to send copy of manual but got back following notice from my server.

<dbmorgan@hotmail.com>:
65.54.244.136 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable
Giving up on 65.54.244.136.

Don’t know what it really means.
Not sure if I can send it via the forum personal messages.

Perhaps you could try emailing me to see if the connection works.

Regards, David

Re: Anchoring

Yes, many thanks.
I've neglected my boat recently, started fly-fishing again and its very addictive.
Rainbow trout are so lively, taking line, leaping out of the water and for a 3lb fish realy fighting right to the net. SO no boat for the moment. Come the warmer weather and no doubt things will change and it will be back to the sea!!!!. Kindest regards, DBM.
