Re: Yachts at sea

i dont see how any one can say its ok to sail across some one minding there own buisness 10 foot away to gain 3 seconds in a race, and trust me thay have alot more collisions than you think, i work in the industry and see them getting repaired , especilly cowes week which is chaos, ( i dont even go out on the boat that week for safty resons ). it must be similar on cork week
but it does sound like to me you actualy have a harbour master that listens, somethink we dont get in the solent,
we have southapton vts and harbor master who is in charge of the big picture and looks after the shipping side of things and would help if thay actaly saw somethink happen to you but other wise thay are very busy , then a harbour master in charge of each of the port ie, hamble river , cowes, yarmouth, beaulieu river, ichen , test and so on, its these who are usless. and will never listen to a thing you say as most of the big wigs are rock star racing t***s who also run the yacht clubs , hense the saying "wafi hq" the other point is if you go to southapton harbour master (the boss of all the hm) and report a boat. how would he know which yacht he needed to bollock, with the been 1000s and 1000s of boats in a small area, also some the boats are called the same name and of the same make ?????
maybe the pure fact that so many clubs with so many boats, mean so many more idiots and its a impossable task to control them,
but a little respect would mean such a easy life

Re: Yachts at sea

You still have not read my posts correctly.I never said it was ok so sail across anybody else. What i said was what they were doing was WRONG.I then tried to explain why they, the few Cowboys do what they do.I never tried to condone it.

With regard to the size of the Solent,Cork Harbour is bigger.Yet their is only 1 Harbour Master, not one in each area like you said is the case in the Solent. Their is not as many boats, but the ones that are their are registared,as is every mooring in the harbour. Their is no hiding,if you have a boat in a boatyard, or on a mooring your on file, unless you are a trailer sailor and these are not what we are talking about. If you are a visitor you contact Customs prior to arrival with an ETA.This is the same the World over.Their has to be accountability and proper systems in place. I bet if we have them here, then you have them over their.
Regarding boats with the same name, and in the same class, you make the Solent sound like Faulty Towers, which it is not.

fair dos, sorry

but honisty you dont get any help from the harbour master, thay just dont seem to care. maybe if id have been sunk thay might care, but not realy up for that.
and yes thay do have the same names and classes, the worst ones has to be beneteaus called "flying fish" or " rock hopper".or x boats called "Xobite"or "Xpectation" or j boats called fay j or perfect j. call it falty towers if you like but i think its just pure numbers of boats and lack of imagination
shame thay dont have a licence number plate, i know not all yachtys are the same but on race days thay dont think about others
lets face it we ant going to agree about this one ,
as im still quite sore about been dragged around by anchor rope on a keel 2 year ago (luckly no damage but very scary in a littel 17foot boat)and been clipped in a freinds boat in the solent last year.
so happy new year and all the best

Re: Yachts at sea

The big problem here is these cowboys cut across under the bows of the bigger tankers, entering and leaving port. The captains make a report, but are not always able to see a name from their position on the bridge.Their is still hell to pay by the club hosting that race.I bet you that their are Harbour Masters just waiting in the tall grass for a name.....any name.
They recognize this problem worldwide and some of these guys are on a last chance.Who knows maybe your next encounter will be his last.
File that report. You cannot beat the system, all the time.
