40 smoothounds - My little report

Lady Helen Forum meet

3.00 am and the alarm kicks in to life , with one eye open I stumbled around the house and get the rest of the guys up . With a quick coffee it was time to hit the road and head for Penarth for our 5.30am sail time on Lady Helen. Although we were tempted to hit the last hour of the local night club.


Great drive down as strange as it sounds there were no other cars on the road

With the hellos out of the way we steamed out and the anchor was set and out went the roads. Within about 30 seconds Dan was in to a fish !! ( this is the fasted hook up I can remember ) and had his first Smoothound in the net.

For the next hour smoothounds were coming left right and centre and Mike and Dan were running around like mad men.

So what was the tackle on the day ???
Tactics
Up tiding – 8-10oz grip leads fished with 3 ft 40lb hook lengths / strong 0/4 hooks
Down tiding – 1lb / 120z leads with 3 ft 40lb hook lengths / strong 0/4 hooks

Bait
Peeler crab / squid and prawns
The bait that seemed to give the edge was peeler / prawn

The fish did not stop with a steady stream of smoothounds all day .

Some lovely little tope were also taken that shows that the adults had a good spawn

It was great ( about 40 smoothounds ) to meet everyone and just chill / fish that’s what I call a great day

Mixture of Crab and King Prawn....just a pinch of grated ginger touch of corriander smidgen of garlic hint of thai fish sauce ......pan fried.......extra yummy

Cracking session there chaps. Think i'm going to have to dust off the boat tackle & give mike a ring. Well done Mike & Lady Helen.
PS Glad to see evidence of the beer cans, I was beginning to think I was on the wrong Forum.
