Plaice Trip

Six of us went out on Jenifers Pride from Littlehampton yesterday and had a great time.

The channel was like a millpond and we drifted over several mussel beds from about 9 in the morning until about 2.30 in the afternoon.

We arrived in Littlehampton about 7am in time to get a good fry up inside us and then on to the boat about 7.30. Skipper Steve certainly knows his fish marks and we went straight out to a location and started drifting across the first mussel bed.

Within 10 minutes the first plaice was brought up and a few seconds later I was into one. Steve gave us some good tips and we were all soon pulling up plenty of fish.

It was the first time I had tried drifting over the mussel beds and I found it a great experience and certainly a different technique from other bottom fishing.

Over the day, I had 9 plaice the two smallest being about 1lb 4 oz and they went back to fight another day. My remaining 7 place were 2 lb and over, the largest being just under 3 lb.

44 plaice were caught between the six of us the largest being 3lb 12 oz.

Other fish caught on the day were 1 doggie, 1 wrasse, 2 dragonheads, 2 black bream and 3 mackerel (caught on the retreive).

I can certainly recommend the boat. It was comfortable and the skipper Steve looked after us and he knows his marks.
