| first time problems! Just thought i would tell you about my problems i had trying to arrange a my first boat trip. Last year me and my mate decided that we would book up a trip to try catch some cod. I looked in the back off sea angler and rang a few boats and made my booking with a boat that said it was good for novices, How wrond was I. I phoned the skipper up to confirm the booking and ask for some advice on tackle and traces and found him very unhelpfull! He told me that I we would be drifting and using whole cuttlefish as bait. When i asked him what would be involved and what tackle to bring he said that its not hard and to bring my bankcard along so i can buy all the tackle i would need before we left. Cheers! I then went on to ask about what rod and reel (as my oldman has several) and was promptly told to hire my gear from him! This trip was already costing a bomb so i wasn`t keen on it! I then got a phonecall from my mate telling me that he had been just as "helpfull" towards him. At this point I would have booked up on another boat but couldn`t as they were all booked and i had booked hol at work so we just looked up info on the net and i found another skipper who gave me all the info i needed on the promise of if i liked it i booked with him in the future which I would as he was relly helpfull. It was the night before the trip and I went to rin the skipper to get times and to see if the weather was ok but couldn`t get through so i left a msg on his answerphone and waited and waited and waited. Finally at half ten at night i got a call telling me it was off due to the weather! I was gutted and arranged a trip to dover addy. Got to the pier the following day and there was only a light breeze so my mate phoned his no and his wife answered the phone saying he was out on his boat! We did arrange a trip with the other skipper but that got legitimatly blown out with gales and am still awaiting my first trip Is this a common problem for us novices? Are we a pain or was this fella out of line? Cheers all ![]() __________________ If its worth catching i`ll want one! |

| Re: first time problems! Sounds like your having a bad first trip mate , boat trips are often called off at the last minute due to bad weather, but skippers no best and have only your best interest at heart, well most of them anyway, sounds like you booked up with a right t****r mate , you should have asked on here first !!!!!!!! cheers lee. __________________ A MAN IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL HE IS MARRIED, THEN HE IS FINISHED .!!! |

| Re: first time problems! This was last year this happened. Haven`t had the £ to go this year yet but am lookin for a trip soon. I can appreciate weather problems it was just the general attitude of the skipper who gave the impression that he didn`t give a toss and that I have a endless pit of £ to throw at it. When is best in the year to go boat fishing? Much about in Sept/Oct? I live in kent and am lookin to book up a trip? Still don`t know if i am sea sick Cheers all ![]() __________________ If its worth catching i`ll want one! |

| Re: first time problems! Hi, What was the name of the boat that you booked? I have fished out of Dover on quite a few occasions and have found all the skippers quite friendly. However, if as you say this one was the opposite we should be well warned to stay away. As for calling the trip off at the last minute, I had exactly the opposite happen to me last year while I was on holiday. The skipper called off the trip at 2100hrs due to bad weather. I was phoned at 0600hrs the following morning to tell me that the trip was on. The wind during the night was horendous but the following day the sea was flat calm. | Re: first time problems! Hi, I've been out on Sea Breeze with Terry Lee, not one of my favourites, but as you say Chris Bray skipper of Great Escape is a thorough gent. I was due to go out on Great Escape this month but had to turn it down as I am on holiday for the next 3 weeks. PM "Fred", he has a trip booked with Chris and there might be spaces available, although they may be mid week. The next time he has a couple of cancellations I will PM you and if you are free we might arrange something? Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold |
