Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth part 2

Hi Tommy,

I've e mailed you my mobile, couldn't be bothered to log out and in again so it may look like it came from my wife.
Tide on Aug 1 is 8am and gone 8pm and at 3.7 and 4.1 they are great tides.

Last trip I found a new fishing area that looks fantastic, could only drift it twice as we were running out of water.....3 bass!! None to me but someones gotta look after the boat and its a tricky spot. A freind of Matt fished this spot a couple of days later, early tide and got 23 bass to 8lbs, not at all bad I think you'll agree. We might give it a little time on Tuesday as its a nice early one....I'm shaking with anticipation!

We'll probably get down fairly early Aug1 but just join us when you feel like it.

Cheers Jules.

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth part 2

Jules,

We will be aiming to be down as early as possible - depends whether we spend the night down there on Saturday - which would make sense cause of the very early start. I dont mind but the Mrs might not like getting woken up !!

Heard a long range forecast today - the last week of July is due to be excellent and the best this month so hopefully the Sunday will be ace as well.

Could you possibly e mail me through your number again - I managed to delete it in my in tray at work !! Also you gonna let me know this new spot - is it in the estaury at Teignmouth or just out a bit - only ask cause my old man is down this week and would like to catch a few bass - if its out of the estauary a bit then he can come over !! I appreciate marks are well kept secrets but I need all the help I can get .........

I spose if you dont want to make it public on here just drop me an e mail with it. What time you out tomorrow cause Ill get the old boy to give you a shout on channel 6 !

Cant wait for the 1st of August !!

Hi Tommy

Didn't get a chance to log in last night, will e mail you number and area details.

This morning was an early and a pretty good day, Lovely weather and decent tide.
Our catch consisted of: 8 bass, 1 dogfish, heaven knows how many macks, a pollack (small) and a very sweet hermit crab.
The sandeel guys open at 6am and will be open 1st aug.
Back home 12.30 and exhausted, going to get some kip.

Cheers Jules

And no I didn't get a bass!!!!

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth part 2

Got it Tommy, phone numbers sorted.

Also had a couple of messages from Gus about holding a small boat forum member only competition. Sounds a great idea, no size limit all fish count, x number of points per fish, X number of points per species, I guess to stop people just catching 300 mackys you would have to limit the amount of fish of each species or have different amount of points for different fish...ie mackys 1 point bass 50 points tuna 1000 points!
So if it was 10 points for each new species and your catch for the day was say 70 mackys and 6 bass you would rack up ;
Mackeral 10 points
70x1point 70 points
bass 10 points
6x50 300 points

total 390 points

Informal and with no prize money or corporate sponsership!
Anyway it's something to think about. Nick, You've not been forgotten you're in it too. But you gotta catch some fish.

talk soon, Jules

Red face Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth part 2

Jules,

Sounds like a great idea - one of me mates coming down next Sunday with us also has a 16ft orkney so he may well persuade his dad to get that in the water to make another boat load.

I think Ill just aim for the 60Lb conger as I certainly have no success at bassing - makeral are always good fun mind. Are there still plenty of bass being caught out of Teignmouth off the sandbanks and out around Thatchers etc ? If there are whats the best method - shads / jelly worms / spinners ?

Obviously we dont get all the reports from your side of the bay plus we cant get live sandeel easily - I dont know if youve gone right out or just stayed by the mouth of the estuary - hope we might pick some up on our way back in next Sunday.

Anyone else on the forum fancy a boat day out ?

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth part 2

Tommy,

Gus ( one of the forum moderators, aren't they in the Harry Potter books?)
is sending me info on how to run boat comps and has offered to do the paperwork! Good on yer Gus!
If it gets here by the 1st we can have a freindly comp!
Yes there are still loads of bass off teignmouth if you can get thru the mackeral. I'll buy a load of sandeels so no one has an unfair advantage. But each boat will need an aerator and bucket or a wooden box with lots of holes in to dangle over the side. They are the number one bait this year.
I think your offer of a day out may get you swamped with pm's.
60lb conger....in yer dreams!

Can't wait, Cheers. Jules
