Yacht fishing 1st timers any help much appreciated Hi, We are going on an 80ft yacht from gloucester to marbella across the bay of biscay. We have bought 2 boat rods but dont know what the best tactics to use are. We will be moving most of the time. Ive seen some pictures of massive tuna caught winched on board or gaffed...would we need some extra equipment with us?? Is there anything else we can fish for...maybe using lures-if so what is the best rig and how far do we let it drop etc? Any info or tips would be much appreciated. Basically we just want to catch some fish :)

Re: Yacht fishing 1st timers any help much appreciated Hi try a "teaser" anything bright that splashes on the surface with a six foot wire trace on which is the biggest/ brightest muppet (plastic squid) loaded with a 8/0 tuna hook. Just lower the rig over the stern, let out 50m of line, and lash the rod to something that won't move, set the drag on reel to match boat speed. Pray for a "hook up" ![]() __________________ Poor prep= Pathetic Performance

Thank you both for your response Very much appreciated! Could I ask now what strenth line we should use on the main line and what we would do if we did hook up? Would we have to stop the boat to play it? Do we need a gaff and a net to get fish on board? Is the teaser different to the muppet? Do you mean have a paternoster type rig with both on? Should we use a barrel weight on the rig? if so how heavy would you recommend? I feel like im pushing it now with a million and one questions but if you can spare the time to help it would be gr8! ![]()

Re: Yacht fishing 1st timers any help much appreciated 50lb mono should do with a steel trace, gaff would be better than a net, teaser goes on main line befor the trace, anything that splashes on the surface will do, no weight unless the muppet is airbourne more than in the water, stopping the boat is almost a must as a 50lb fish being towed at five knots gives you no chance of ever landing it. There is a game tackle shop in dorset (google it) who will give you more advice and the right tackle to buy than I can. ![]() __________________ Poor prep= Pathetic Performance
