| Hi all. Can anyone suggest a decent, reliable multiplier/trolling reel which wont break the bank as I keep buying old tat.... I know the saying "You get what you pay for" I just cant decide. I am trying to get a couple of old Penn reels, are the old ones better than the newer versions? Any help would be gratefully recieved. Cant wait to get back out on the boats, just need reliable reels. Cheers. |

| Re: What reel? Hi c-j230, In my opinion you have two choices. Number 1 is either the Abu 7000/7500C3. These reels can be used for uptiding, downtiding or beachcasting. They are as versitile as you will get. Number 2 is the Shimano Charter Specials. These reels again do nearly the same as the Abu reels but are better used for downtiding only. You would not use them for beachcasting. They are not so "casting friendly" for uptiding as the Abu's but are still an excellent reel Both are reasonably expensive but with a little tender care will last you a lifetime, at least 20 years. I am sure that the Penn brigade will be around soon, but between you and I, stick with either the Abu's or Shimano's. Cheers Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold |
