Re: Hooking bass on live sandeels

Richard that is so cool!

Pole sands is basically inside the blue lines that almost join the two lighthouses across the estuary, Go east about half an inch above the pier then south to the bottom of the screen and west to where you can see the sand jutting out to sea but can't quite see the Ness. I'll be there guys!

The forum is in for a good weekend, remember your cameras!

Cheers Jules

PS I marked where I start my drifts on the screen with a marker pen so its clear to everyone.

Re: Hooking bass on live sandeels

erm... slight problem...

...We went down today... and i had a slight accident with the tender... as a result we no longer have a outboard, and we cant really justify going down without the use of the outboard... its the spring tide 2morrow and theres no way im going to attempt to row out... I was rather shaken up as the tiller came away in my hand and i completely lost control of the dingy, or as i like to call it "Floating Death"... my dad and uncle have already ended up halfway up the river after going over in it...

...that is my long winded method of I wont be able 2 b there at all tomorrow... its a bitch really...

....were you aware as well that its the regatta in Shaldon/Teignmouth... i got stuck in the middle of a rowing boat race 2day... which was embaracing...

...I'm sorry, and I will try to be at whichever next time is organised... with an engine...

Re: Hooking bass on live sandeels

Hey,Gus,you call using 4/0 hooks fishing light?Up our way the commercial rod and line boat fishermen use only fluorocarbon-sometimes 20 ft. traces, with a size 6 hook, using head hooked live sand eel- if that's what they're feeding on.They net for eels on the local beaches, and keep them alive in a tub full of constant running water on the boat.

The imaginery line is drawn between the channel bouy off Sandy Bay and across to the sanbanks - basically the whole of the river !!

Re: Hooking bass on live sandeels

Tommy,

sorry its taken so long to get here. You are undoubtedly the winner of last sundays trip, whilst Mat and I caught loads all we did was bag up on mackerel, pout, and dogfish. 2 of the pout we caught were over 2lbs!

I've just recieved the Ministry of ag etc bass conservation laws and Devon sea fish committee byelaws. Jeez what boring reading! After wading thru 50 pages of legaleez it boils down to what we knew anyway. No fishing for bass in the estuaries between 1st of may to 31st october.

Now for some really bad news.....I'm off on holiday next couple weeks..
I've given Matt all the boat stuff and he'll certainly be coming down for some fishing. My next planned trip is 24th!! Its gonna be hard.

Chappell.....I really don't know what to say......PLANK

Good luck guys, can't wait to get back!

Jules

Re: Hooking bass on live sandeels

Jules,

Have a good holiday and enjoy !

Does Matt use this forum much or have a contact e mail address cause I was hoping to meet him over your way again in a couple of weeks to get some bass - if we ever do.

Obviously I was going to see if he can get us some live sandeel again as we find it very hard to so if he has a contact can you let me know. Thanks for getting the bait on Sunday - I forgot to give you a fiver we had on board so next time Ill pay for both lots mate.

Can you let Matt know we were thinking of bassing for a couple of hours and then pollack fishing off the Orestone and Thatchers Rock week beginning 16th probably nearer the end of the week.

Thanks Jules - look forward to the next trip.
