use a fine wire aberdeen 4/0 hook pass the hook through the mouth and out of the gill without hooking the eel and then just nick the hook into the belly of the eel without killing it doing it this way gives you two chances of hooking the fish, if it takes the eel and tugs at it it may pull the hook out of the belly but the eel will still be held on the hook because it is through the gills therefore giving you a second chance (if you see what i mean) it is easier to show you than explain it.

Re: Hooking bass on live sandeels

He will only tow on fridays for us, and its keeping them alive until sunday thats the problem, as we;re not using Paul he will normally help us out by hanging them over the side but he will be out on the sat so theres nowhere safe to put them.

Re: Hooking bass on live sandeels

Hi guys yes tis Jules,

Getting live sandeels from teignmouth back to exmouth should be a piece of cake. Just inside the point is a big sign on what looks like a beach hut saying BAIT and SANDEELS. 3 quid for a scoop and Matt and I had 1 scoop for our last session and we chucked most of them back in afterwards! You do need an aerator for your bucket but I think they are only about 3 quid from the tackle shop in teignmouth.

Chappers, I hope no animal rights peeps are reading this but to hook a live sandeel so it doesn't come off too easily you pass the hook through the mouth and out its eye. The guy who answered earlier and said in the gills and lightly in the belly could have a valid point and could be why I missed 2 good fish last session, I will definately give it a go tuesday.

Early tide tuesday, the best, might even break my duck this year on bass. I'll ask the sandeel seller about opening early 1st august for us. Gonna be a good day, weather permitting.

We've all caught some good fish this year except me, I think my luck is about to change. Can't wait till tuesday

Cheers all, tight lines! Jules

Re: Hooking bass on live sandeels

Tommy,
I think there was a guy mentioned someone who sells live sandeels in exmouth in the the bassing around exmouth thread. I know its long but probably worth a look.
best of luck, I will try and bring a load with me on august 1 if it pans out.
Have a good holiday.
Kindest regards,
Jules
