Re: little help with stuff

Hi Nestle,

Sorry to break the bad news but If you are going out mid channel , it could be anything from 6ozs up to 2lbs. Best bet is to phone the skipper and ask him.

Whatever, make sure that you use at least 30lb braid in your reel. Mono is a definite no go. If you have to buy some get it from www.braiddirect.co.uk you won't find any cheaper

Cheers

Drew

Hi Nestle,

Traces depend on what type of fishing you will be engaged on i.e. drifting over a wreck or anchoring over or very near to a wreck.

If you are drifting, a flowing trace of between 8 & 12ft. would be in order. You would use either 3 - 4 - 5" Storm Shads in various colours, although blue/white - orange - pearl or red/pearl are favourites where I fish from. I would also take a few black Jelly Worms with me with various coloured tails. Your hooks should be 4/0 - 6/0 Varivas or similar. A couple of 4 - 6ft traces with, hooks only, would be ideal for baiting with Mackerel if they are about. A couple of different weighted pirks wouldn't go amiss. I always remove the trebles from my pirks and replace them with 2 - 3 single hooks attached to the split ring with a short 2 - 3" 30lb mono. That way if your pirk becomes snagged you will always be able te retrieve it by pulling it free, something you cannot do if the treble is snagged.

When on the anchor you will be fishing for all sorts, including Conger, Ling, Bass, Pollock, and lots of other bits and pieces. You will then have to use different traces for these species. Conger and Ling traces are virtually the same. A few 30lb traces of about 3 - 4ft with 6/0 hooks or less will cover all other species except Black Bream. I am sure that you will manufacture a selection of various traces before your trip, but if you require any further assistance, just ask.

No doubt some of the other lads will offer their opinions, between us you should have enough traces etc. for an excellent trip.

Please keep us informed.

Regards

Drew

Re: little help with stuff

I noticed you said you had got a 50lb class outfit.
If you are going after Pollock then you would be far better off trying to get hold of a 12-20lb outfit. You will have a lot more fun than with a 50lb outfit. That sort of outfit is fine for when you are anchored up and Conger fishing.
