firetails - How to use them

firetails for wreck fishing pollock and bass

Ok I off with the guys on 11th July wreck fishing and have been recomended to use firetails



Well its been a long time since I have used them so am I right in thinking -

You hit the bottom quickly reel in (about four turns) and then steadly retreive them ( counting as you go )

You do not strike when the fish strikes but continue to reel in as this sets the hook that is on a 10 -15 foot trace

Put me right guys and girls if Im wrong

yep sounds right to me

Spot on mate, don't forget to set your reel clutch so that a fish can take line otherwise you'll just rip it out of it's mouth.

Yes very good piont Gus

Always have the clutch set otherwise you could loose fish or your rod

and beleive me I have seen a rod go over board when it got snagged

OK before I make a mistake what it the best size hook to use with firetails

I use 6/0s John uses 4/0s take your choice

i use 6/0 just incase i want to change it for a bigger lure and coz its stronger

Well got my hooks 4 / 5 plus E/C jelly hooks which have very small barbs to stop the worm coming off - well they caught me anyway

So I was wondering has any one tried the with flor.. beads near the hook
