Right, Looks like we are going wrecking on the 11th July. Never done it before so need advice, bait/lure, the best wrecks leaving from Portsmouth, what are we fishing for, end tackle/traces etc. Gus and anyone else who can help, please give us as much info as possible :)

Re: Wrecking Advice Please What fish you gonna be targetting? If it's cod, use baited muppets, or 2lb. rippers For pollack use big artificial eels on very long flowing traces, or, maybe, it's conger you're chasing - in which case full mackerel fillets or cuttlefish make fab baits... But I don't do boat fishing, Gus would probably help you better than me, although I have been wrecking before - and believe me....I WAS WRECKED!! lol

Re: Wrecking Advice Please hi guys! you will need for the wrecks off Portsmouth firetail jelly worms two packets of ten.(southend tackle supplies) various shads but not a lot the firetails are working very well at the moment, Wrecking booms good quality fairly stiff ones 12-14" for jelly worms and shads, for storm lures (weighted) 8-10" stiff booms these are fished on 3.4ft traces, Suggest you have about 10 booms in your box. If you want to try pirking five pirks should be enough and only used at slack water or when tide has droped off. the traces for the jelly worms should be 10-13ft of 30lb amnesia with a swivel at the boom end the hook should be 6/o for worms and 7/0 for large shads. I can supply booms and pirks, and traces if needs be.P.O.A. The skipper will (should ) have his own wrecking marks pm me for any gear you want.

Re: Wrecking Advice Please Hi andyg, I fish with Gus and favour 4/0s 5/0s for the jellies, shads are two much like work, you've got to wind like mad to make them work.[get the action from tail] If tide is running, a slow wind is used on jellies as tide slackens speed up. Its only a rough guide, HO, dont strike, just keep reeling at the same speed. Pollock pluck you'll feel the weight, just keep winding [easier said than done] when they take the hook you'll know all about it. Good Luck

Re: Wrecking Advice Please Thanks for great info from Gus and John. Hey Richard, Gus is coming and can supply us gear if required, plus tips and advice etc. I have got to confirm with the skipper that wrecking is on, but he's on holiday until 7th July. I'll be using Gus as a bargaining chip as he's a relatively new skipper and Gus will be able to give him some good info on marks etc.

Re: Wrecking Advice Please I will run a teach in on the day on the way out. the last time I did this with complete novices (they did'nt have any gear at all) They caught 40 pollack to 15lbs One lady caught ten on her own and had never held a fishing rod before so I was well chuffed with the format and will use it again.

Re: Wrecking Advice Please 28 to 35 miles if we go to the south west 28 miles if we go to the east I'm not sure If Gary has the same wrecks as we fish, But He should have some wrecks, If not, I would suggest he contacts Paul for some help. Maybe go out with Paul as a buddy boat or something.
