Where to buy a Crab / lobster pot or creel? Hi, I'm trying to source a crab pot for collecting hermit crabs for summer smut fishing in the solent. Does anyone know where you can buy them from? I've seen a few designs for lobster, prawn and crab pots etc but not sure what type would be best for the hermits? I used to go on a charter boat (Dave Adams, langstone) and the skip used to pick his catch up on the way out. I remember it being full of hermits and whelks but i was too young to remember the type he was using. Cheers, James

Re: Where to buy a Crab / lobster pot or creel? Hi Solent Fisher, On one of the charter boats that I use, the skipper has a stainless steel ring about 20 - 24 inches in diamater. Bound to this is an onion net that has been shortened to about half its length, i.e. bound with nylon twine and cut. A heavy weight is tied to the inside of the net and drop rope attached to the ring. When we arrive at the mark, a Pouting, Mackerel etc. is attached to the bottom of the net which is then dropped overboard for half an hour or so and hey presto a sackful of Hermit Crabs for our bait. Stainless Steve www.stainless-steve.co.uk is the man to ask about a stainless steel ring. He is in your area. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold

Re: Where to buy a Crab / lobster pot or creel? Got mine from a mail order company called Gael Force. Really its a boat supply company but they also do all the commercial fishing stuff as well. Catalogue makes for very interesting reading. Dunno how there are any fish left when you see the stuff they use!!! Cheers Jules __________________ born to fish....forced to work

Re: Where to buy a Crab / lobster pot or creel? I use just a bog standard comercial crab pot.If you pop down your local fish quay and have a chat i m sure they will either give you one or at the most charge you a fiver,as there are usually loads of old ones lying about. Trouble with getting hermits in the solent is that since whelk fishing has taken off theres no shells left for hermits ,which =no hermits ![]() __________________ Come on you HULL!
